Spilling the beans about Cafe Danielle's Acoustic Nights

If you're not clued in to the singer/songwriter scene in St. Louis, don't blame Kentaro Sugiyama. For close to two years, he's been scouring the city for unassuming, unplugged musicians and smartly matching them up for his Acoustic Nights at the Cafe Danielle in the Central West End. The next two Fridays will be dedicated to female performers — some better-known, some still obscure — who suggest something of the range of genres, temperaments, and talents of St. Louis' acoustic scene. On Aug. 13, Christine Peick, who fronts the durable bluegrass band Raven Moon and who may be that genre's sassiest dresser, joins the sincere and subtle Jennifer Noble-Love, newcomer Barb Soetebier, veteran Jan Marra (currently of the a cappella group Pieces of 8), and another newcomer, Sandra McCracken, whose new CD, The Crucible, has been getting some rotation on KDHX. The next week, Aug. 20, features the well-toured Robin Anderson, Stacey Cox, Kristen Foht and Anna Berry, who also performs as part of the Attic Girls duo.
