What a Feeling

Dancers are different from the rest of us. They understand their bodies and the emotion behind movement in a way that non-dancers cannot imagine. But that’s not to say there’s a disconnect between the performer and the audience member -- in fact, quite the opposite is true. The emotion seeps into an audience’s collective consciousness throughout the course of a performance; the dancers then vibe off the viewers’ reverberations, making each concert one the audience is a part of, at least in spirit. But don’t just take our word for it: Find out for yourself during the Impulse Dance Festival presented by the aTrek Dance Collective at the Centene Center for Arts & Education (3547 Olive Street). During these contemporary-dance shows, scheduled at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 6 and 8 p.m. on Saturday (August 17 and 18), Germaul Barnes from New York performs Long Legged Bait, Diana Barrios and Britney Rutherford show new pieces, and much more. Your $10-to-$15 admission includes not only the concert but also a reception with the dancers after both 8 p.m. shows. To purchase tickets and for more information, call 314-772-7778 or visit
Fri., Aug. 17; Sat., Aug. 18
