Trippy and noisy, White Denim is finally getting some attention for its hazy version of garage punk infused with psychedelia. The Austin band's Midwest tour hits Mojo's in Columbia for what promises to be a loud and sweaty night. Recent shows in Nashville and Memphis have been guitar-heavy, alternating between jammy extended solos and frenzied punk squawking. The tour supports White Denim's May release, D, which is filled with complex orchestrations, extended riffs and frontman James Petralli's ethereal vocals. The newest incarnation of the band should appeal to fans of My Morning Jacket who long for a more intimate sound, particularly on "Street Joy." Not that they've abandoned their jangly garage history — "It's Him" maintains the rough and melodic roots.
