Who Wears the Pac-Man Watch?

Some day in the far-off future, Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins will be remembered for many achievements: The creation of highly successful video-game culture web comic Penny Arcade; the development of Child's Play, their toy-drive charity for kids; keeping the eternal flame of Pac-Man Fever burning brightly. Their greatest contribution to the 21st century may just be the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory, developed by Penny Arcade character Gabe, which states simply this truth about humanity: You can behave horribly while online because your anonymity shields you from public scorn and — and this is a subtlety often overlooked — you have an audience. It's a reminder that just because you can't be physically seen, you don't have to make your basest thoughts and feelings heard; keep it to yourself, fuckwad. Tonight from 7 to 10 p.m. at Mad Art Gallery (2727 South Twelfth Street; 314-771-8230 or, Krahulik and Holkins celebrate eleven-and-a-half years of The Splendid Magic of Penny Arcade with a combination discussion of their collaboration, a question-and-answer session and book signing (available onsite via Left Bank Books' mobile sales table). Admission is free.
