Wicked Lady Pub

There's nothing wicked or ladylike about The Wicked Lady. Look past the odd decor (stained-glass birds!) and the fact that this is a pub without any draft beer, and it's clear this Bevo spot is a hidden gem. The fare ranges from Scottish pub food (Scotch eggs and the meat pies known as "birdies") to excellent thin-crust pizza to burgers and wings. The standout isn't one specific dish but the restaurant's signature "Wicked" sauce, as thick and nearly as dark and molasses, a little sweet, with a heckuva kick. It tops the "Wicked" burger and might wean you off ordinary Buffalo wing sauce forever. The joint has a decidedly masculine air; rough-hewn stones line the entrance way, and the booths are made of brick and mortar. The octagonal bar resembles a giant umbrella, and there's an unexpected dash of color at the very top -- stained glass peacocks, which add visual flare to the Wicked Lady's otherwise neutral palette.
