Kander and Ebb's Cabaret is a frequently produced musical because it's so very entertaining, thanks in large part to its generous portions of sex, glitz and Nazis. Those elements have broad appeal (well, two out of three ain't bad), but the story of Cliff, a would-be writer, and Sally, a nightclub showgirl, meeting and entering into a complicated relationship, is something with which most people can relate. Sometimes you fall in love with the wrong person, but doing so while free society collapses in the background makes it just a bit more romantic for some reason. NonProphet Theater Company presents its version of Cabaret with local burlesque star Lola Van Ella in the role of Sally Bowles at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. Sunday (July 23 through August 1), at the Kranzberg Arts Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 636-236-4831 or www.nptco.org). Tickets are $15 to $25.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: July 23. Continues through Aug. 1, 2010
