Wine and Weihnacht

Gettin' German in Hermann

The holiday season encroaches — oops, we mean arrives — earlier and earlier each year. In fact, in 2009 you might want to consider wrapping tinsel around your jack-o'-lantern in the interest of efficiency. The problem with this whole Christmas-in-October trend? It takes away from the actual, undeniable joy of the season. Recapture that joy at the sixteenth annual Kristkindl Markt Saturday and Sunday (December 6 and 7) on the grounds of Stone Hill Winery (1110 Stone Hill Highway, Hermann). At this free festival, you can partake of great holiday traditions, such as Christmas-tree-decorating. Kristkindl is also the ideal place to do your holiday shopping, as vendors offer everything from handmade pottery to beautiful jewelry to gourmet smoked meats. If all that shopping gets your tummy rumblin', no worries: You'll find cookies, hot soup, cider, coffee and free samples of mulled wine at the Markt. Head to Hermann between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday for a quadruple dose of holiday cheer. Call 800-909-9463 or visit www.stonehillwinery.com for more information.
