Wine, Cheese and an Outdoor Breeze

Despite our efforts to pass legislation on the matter, built-in outdoor spaces are still not mandatory enhancements for all dwellings in this city. Sure, freestanding houses almost always have a patio out back and a front stoop, and some apartments do sport balconies and decks, but for many who live in the city, the plentiful, lovely parks serve as our (shared) outdoor space. These community assets are certainly lovely and all, but even still, we sometimes look longingly at the decks and porches of others and dream of sipping lemonade and taking in the view from up there. Good thing the nice people at Vin de Set (2017 Chouteau Avenue; 314-241-8989 or www.vindeset.com) are so generous with their open-air space. They welcome one and all to their deck as soon as the weather gets nice — starting today! — and even offer all kinds of goodies to entice us (like we need any encouragement). At the restaurant's second annual Deck Opening Party, happening from 5 to 7 p.m., we shall breathe in the fresh air and sample oysters, mushrooms, cheese, beers, wines and more, including pizza from the Vin de Setters' new eatery, PW Pizza. And note: If the reservations for the free party are all snatched up, remember that the restaurant is open for dinner, too, and spring eats are on the menu. Yum!
