Witness a Banging Birthday

Over here at Night & Day Global Industries, some of us are big fans of birthdays. There's just something about surviving another year that makes us feel giddy, lucky and motivated to make the next 365 days even better. Sure, that's totally a glass-half-full perspective, but there's nothing wrong with having a smidge of positivity every now and then. We're thinking the folks at the Modern American Dance Company are glass-half-full people, too, and that they're feeling the annual giddiness even more than usual right now. The group is celebrating its 35th year -- no small achievement, to be sure -- and it's honoring the accomplishment by giving you a gift. Pulse! opens the company's special season, and for this concert, MADCO dancers team up with percussionist Matt Henry, a professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, who favors the beats coming out of Latin America and Africa. This concert is presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (October 7 and 8) at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). Tickets cost $23 -- purchase yours by calling 314-516-4949 or visiting
