Work It, Dance It

Preparing for a dance performance is a very stressful time — it's much like prepping for a test, for all of you non-dancers out there. But instead of just worrying about whether or not your brain will freeze up when you take that No. 2 pencil in hand, at a dance concert, you're also concerned that your body might put itself on hold. You can't think when you're onstage — you just do. Fortunately, tons of practice, experience and preparation help dancers overcome any kind of performance issues, and you can check out the results of some young dancers' labor at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday (April 17 through 19) at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City). Student dance companies COCAdance and Ballet Eclectica bring IMPACT, their spring repertory concert, to the stage, during which the dancers will perform ballet, jazz and modern pieces for your enjoyment. Tickets to the shows cost $10 to $15, and they are available at 314-534-1111 or www.metrotix.com.
