World, Meet Africa

By offering films made in countries from Cameroon to Zimbabwe, the African Film Festival helps bring the faraway continent just a little closer to home. The fest runs from Thursday through Sunday (March 27 through 30), and each day, you can catch screenings of a full-length feature and a short work. Kicking off the film fun on Thursday is Meokgo and the Stick Fighter and Juju Factory. The former is a short from South Africa/Lesotho about an orphaned stick fighter and his true love, and the award-winning Juju (a still of which is pictured), out of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, tells the story of a writer and his "juju" (self-confidence). All screenings are free and begin at 7 p.m. in Room 100 of Brown Hall on Wash. U.'s campus (Forsyth and Skinker boulevards). If you stick around after the films on Sunday, the final day of the festival, you can participate in a post-show discussion and reception.
