Worlds Within Worlds

The spirit of radio

There's a whole lotta sci-fi going on this weekend in the St. Louis area, what with Archon 32 over in Collinsville and the arrival of the L.A. Theatre Works at Washington University's Edison Theatre (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; 314-935-6543 or The LATW specializes in presenting radio plays, an expanded form of the classic radio drama that utilizes costumes and minimal sets to enhance the show for a live audience. Actually, that should be "shows," since the LATW performs a double feature: H.G. Wells' War of the Worldsand Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. The latter was adapted for the stage and directed by John de Lancie, who you no doubt recognize as Q from various Star Trek series. Further cast members the sci-fi buff will know and love include actor Jerry Hardin (Deep Throat on The X-Files, pictured) and Tom Virtue from Star Trek: Voyager and Disney's Even Stevens (not sci-fi, but still a funny show). Tickets for this live two-fer of golden age science fiction are $20 to $32, and show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (October 3 and 4).
