You want everything to go well when introducing your parents to your significant other's parents, or at the very least to not descend into chaos. Tony and Alice had everything stage managed for success; her eccentric family were to be on their best behavior, and his parents just had to show up hungry. But Tony shows up on the wrong night, and the Sycamore clan are busily pursuing their favorite hobbies. The printing press is in the parlor, Uncle Paul is making fireworks in the basement and Grandpa is tending his snakes. George S. Kaufman's You Can't Take it With You shows that being a little off-kilter isn't necessary to live a happy life, but it sure doesn't hurt anything. The Theatre Guild of Webster Groves opens its production of the classic comedy this weekend.
