Video Games Officially Less Popular Than Online Gambling, TikTok, and OnlyFans

It’s official: video games are losing the attention war. We used to bust ass to level up in Mario, and now it’s all about TikTok scrolls, gambling apps, and peeping what your faves on OnlyFans are up to. Gaming is by no means shuffling off its mortal coil and going gently into that good night, it’s just having to share the limelight with platforms that offer more immediate gratification. During the pandemic, the gaming industry saw a nifty little boost in numbers, but now the industry is in a major slumpola. Gaming is still huge, but the attention split is stark enough that online gaming businesses are feeling the sting. Their number one problem? Younger audiences have shorter attention spans now, and long gaming sessions are just too ambitious for what the attention window they’re working with.

One key factor that is currently affecting the gaming industry is the fact that it isn’t just competing with itself anymore. Meet the rivals commanding attention away from Skyrim, or whatever it is the kids are playing online these days:

TikTok: instant attention via interaction with other users (think likes, comments, duets).

Online Gambling: instant dopamine + a chance of money = a thriving digital time waster.

OnlyFans: instant sexual gratification, and opportunity for personal interaction.

These platforms are “winning” over traditional gaming due to offering fast, immediate, and rewarding experiences instead of having to commit to the time investment that comes with getting invested in video games. And I mean, I get it! Why would you grind for hours when a 30-second TikTok can make you laugh, gambling might just possibly make you rich, and OnlyFans… well. You know how I love that little blue platform.

This shift is by and large being shaped by younger users, and long-form engagement structures (gaming, blogs, news sites) are all struggling against readily available bite-sized dopamine hits. Sorry Mario, your princess is still in another castle, but Gen Z is going to need that castle to pop up in a 8 second reel in order to even think about trying to go find her.

Honestly, this opens up a wide world of potential for Gamer Girl OnlyFans creators. They’re literally the perfect hybrid of two competing worlds! They combine gaming with adult content in ways that have previously been unavailable! They offer gameplay clips that encourage subscribers to get back into playing themselves, cosplay looks of favorite characters, tips on how to approach challenges in their current favorite online video games, all while still creating and sharing the adult content that drew subscribers to their pages in the first place. Their content has a way of keeping gamers engaged and entertained, while still offering sexual gratification, attention, and simulated desire. Jackpot, right? Like, why would you choose between gaming and sex when you can literally have a controller in one hand, and an OnlyFans subscription in the other?

Attention spans have the potential to even be strengthened via engaging platforms like OnlyFans. Think about it! It’s interactive, it’s engaging, and it offers the opportunity to use multiple parts of the brain in one go, unlike the “mindless scroll” TikTok catches us all in. Gaming is dead, but maybe it could do a better job of learning to share the limelight with newer, sexier, and faster forms of entertainment. If your brain needs things fast, it might as well come with rewards, in which case… sorry, TikTok. I’m siding with OnlyFans on this one.
