From the initialism JOI: “Jerk Off Instruction.”
JOI (plural JOIs)
Jerk Off Instructions (JOI) is a type of adult content where you’re not just watching, you’re part of it. The performer talks straight to the camera, telling you what to do, cheering you on, or taking control. Unlike regular porn, which is just you watching people, JOI is meant to feel like a personal one-on-one experience, like the performer is right there in the room with you.
The big thing about JOI is that the performer breaks the fourth wall. They look you in the eye, talk to you directly, and often use commands or flirty/affectionate language to connect. There’s usually a power dynamic: sometimes the performer is sweet and encouraging, acting like a caring partner, and sometimes they’re more dominant, taking charge and telling you exactly what to do.
A lot of JOI uses techniques to make things feel more intense. One of the main ones is edging: you get close to orgasm, then have to stop and wait, which builds tension. Performers often use countdowns or specific pacing to sync their actions with their voice. In some cases, they might do “ruined orgasms,” where you finish without complete satisfaction, just to keep control in their hands.
A typical soft session might go like this: the performer sits on a bed, smiles at the camera, and chats with you to set a cozy vibe. They tell you to get comfortable and start slowly, reminding you there’s no rush. They might watch you or act along while giving tips on pace or breathing. If edging is involved, they’ll tell you to pause right before finishing. At the end, they usually offer some sweet aftercare and reassuring words to help you chill out after the session.
