Have a Good Night, Mother?

Wife and mother Bridget Cleary goes missing one night, just disappears completely from her small mountain town. Her husband, Michael, finds it odd — Bridget likes her stargazing, but she normally doesn't vanish entirely. When Michael and son Jeremy enlist the help of the police, they discover Mom's been seen quite a bit at a nearby truck stop — and that she's been seen by an awful lot of truckers, if you know what I mean. But when Bridget returns and claims she's actually been in the company of extraterrestrial beings and is part of a larger plan, well, that's when things get weird. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's unsettling sci-fi play Dark Matters doesn't really question if there's anybody else out there so much as it posits that there is something alien in all of us, no matter how well we believe we know our loved ones. Stray Dog Theatre presents a Studio Workshop Production of Dark Matters at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (May 5 through 21) at Tower Grove Abbey (2336 Tennessee Avenue; 314-865-1995 or www.straydogtheatre.org).
