Cutting through the deluge of bad news today comes something exciting for music fans in St. Louis: This January 15 through 18, STL will play host to a new music festival with dozens of bands.
The Art of Live Festival will take place over the course of four nights, with shows at five local venues -- Old Rock House, Off Broadway, the Firebird, the Demo and the Ready Room. Artists announced so far include Cloud Nothings, Zola Jesus and Generationals. More bands will be announced in the coming weeks.

Wristbands, which give access to the entire event will, go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. for $15, and will increase in price as the dates draw near ($25 after Sunday, $30 the week of the event). ORH Concerts and the Old Rock House are excited to announce the first annual Art Of Live Festival. The festival aims to celebrate live music, emerging musical artists, and St. Louis' diverse collection of live music venues.
The festival takes place over four nights at five local venues and features more than two-dozen local, national, and international musical artists. Participating venues include: Old Rock House, Off Broadway, The Firebird, The Demo, and The Ready Room. There will be individual tickets available for each concert as well as full festival wristbands that will grant access to all of these events.
The name for the Art of Live Festival is derived from the James Michener quote: "The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both." Festival organizers felt that this quote best captured the passion that so many feel towards the concert industry.
"Live concerts are unique in that there are no passive participants," said Tim Weber, managing partner of the Old Rock House and ORH Concerts. "Fans, promoters, bands, security- we actively and collectively create the experience- the art- together. That is what we are celebrating with the Art of Live festival. Beyond that we hope to launch each year, and 2015 in particular, with a reminder that there are positive things happening in our city and venues."
