Larry Weir Memorial Concert Set for September

Earlier this year, long-time KDHX programmer/operations manager Larry Weir passed away. The radio station will present a memorial concert at the Sheldon Concert Hall on Sunday, September 12. Acts scheduled to perform include Terry Allen, Katy Moffatt and Andrew Hardin, Fats Kaplin and Kristi Rose, ex-members of the Geyer Street Sheiks and Ben Bedford. Emcee will be Supe Granda. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $20 for the balcony, $25 for orchestra seats. (It is general admission, however.)

A press release from the station outlined Weir's contributions:

As one of the first five employees at KDHX, Larry contributed on numerous levels and helped shape what the organization has now become. Larry literally helped build KDHX by volunteering to lay the foundation for the radio transmitter site, and by helping to renovate what was originally an old bakery into a radio station.

Larry had a long history in the broadcast industry, beginning first in commercial radio before becoming KDHX's operations manager for over twenty-two years. He trained and produced the work of numerous KDHX DJs, and his own show, Songwriters Showcase, has been a driving force in Americana music throughout the Midwest. His love of music was so infectious over the course of his time at KDHX, that he built a strong following for the genre by introducing thousands of listeners to a kind of music they would otherwise have never heard on the radio.
