And in Pontoon Beach, A Different Standoff Also Ends Quietly

Apparently the third Thursday in August is stand-off night in the region. Police on the east side were called to the 100 block of Carla Drive in Pontoon Beach, Illinois, last night after a man in his 20s reportedly ended an argument with his parents by firing multiple shots in the family home.

The parents were able to escape unscathed, and their son responded by barricading himself in the house. Police threw up a cordon around the home, while the man fired indiscriminately.

At one point during the standoff, police sent a robot with a phone into the house in hopes of talking the man down, but he refused. And so the man and the police remained in place for the rest of a long night.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Friday morning police spotted the man in the home either asleep or unconscious. They made their move then, taking the man into custody without another shot being fired. No one was injured during the ordeal, according to preliminary reports.
