Baseball Card of the Week: Rick Ankiel as a Pitcher

Aug 15, 2008 at 12:37 pm

We just passed a milestone, though you may have missed it if you weren't paying attention.

This week, we saw the one year anniversary of Rick Ankiel's return to the major leagues as an outfielder. And so, in honor of that momentous occasion, I bring you this bit of awesomeness.

You know how a lot of the time, I come on here and say we have a very special Card of the Week post, only to have it all sort of collapse on me when it becomes apparent that it really isn't all that special? Well, not this week. This week we really do have a very special Card of the Week post. Seriously. Quite snickering.

Our card this week comes to us once again from Mr. Tom Carlson, the Senior Art Director here at the RFT. Thanks again to Mr. Carlson for an outstanding submission.

Now, this is the part of the post where I would usually give you a rundown, so to speak, of the player's career, what was going on the time this particular card was put out, and the like. The thing is, though, is that we all know the story by now, probably better than we would like. So instead of telling you about Rick, I thought I would just leave you with one other image that says pretty much all that needs to be said about the story of Rick Ankiel:

The Natural

As always, if you have any submissions for Card of the Week, please send them to me at [email protected]. Thanks, everyone, and have a glorious weekend.
