Domino's Deliveryman Robbery: St. Louis Police Arrest Joey Hale In AK-47 Pizza Theft Case

Jun 5, 2013 at 9:44 am

Let this be a lesson to all the hungry St. Louis robbers out there who like to target Domino's Pizza deliverymen: If you plot to steal pizza, you will get caught!

As we reported last week, county police didn't have too much trouble tracking down suspects in a nighttime armed robbery in Spanish Lake, in part because one woman plotting the attack, Ava Jackson, twenty, ordered the pizza herself -- to the block where she lives.

Her accomplices allegedly confronted a young Domino's deliveryman -- possibly with an AK-47 assault rifle -- and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. And the pizza.

Now, cops say they have made a second arrest.

Joey Hale, eighteen, who also lives in Spanish Lake, is facing felony charges of first-degree robbery "for his participation in forcibly stealing cash and food while displaying a deadly weapon," county police say.

Jackson is not facing a weapons charge because it appears she did not actually confront the victim directly.

Ava Jackson.

Police say that there is a third suspect as well who is still wanted for this crime last Monday that happened at Vodge Drive and Spanish Pond Road in Spanish Lake.

This latest incident comes after a string of particularly violent and bizarre pizza deliveryman robberies in the St. Louis metro area. The problem has gotten so severe that county police actually have an undercover program in place that businesses can utilize by which they send cops to respond to suspicious deliveries.

Here's the county's latest announcement on the case:

The St. Louis County Police Department has arrested a second subject reference a robbery on Monday, May 27, 2013 involving a Dominos Pizza Delivery driver, which took place at Vodge Rd. and Spanish Pond Rd. in Spanish Lake.

The individual arrested has been identified as:

Joey D. Hale Jr.
18 years of age
b/m 11/14/1994
1400 block of Columbus Dr.
St. Louis, MO 63168

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 against Hale Jr. of First Degree Robbery (Class A Felony) for his participation in forcibly stealing cash and food while displaying a deadly weapon. A third suspect is still wanted reference this crime.

Previously: The St. Louis County Police Department has made an arrest reference a robbery on Monday, May 27, 2013 involving a Domino's Pizza Delivery driver, which took place at Vodge Rd. and Spanish Pond Rd. in Spanish Lake.

The 20 year old victim delivering pizza for Dominos exited his vehicle and two armed subjects jumped out from behind bushes and demanded money and the pizza. One was reported to have an assault rifle (possibly AK 47) and the other with a handgun. After getting an undisclosed amount of money and the pizza, they ran from the scene. The victim was not injured.

At least two other individuals are wanted in reference to this case as the investigation continues. The St. Louis County Police Department continues to do and offer undercover work with and for delivery businesses in the region.
