In November state and federal authorities filed a complaint to seize the 350-acre property, located about 150 miles southwest of St. Louis, on charges that the Tebeau and other organizers condoned the sale and use of drugs at the rural campsite.
Although Tebeau had not officially been charged with any crime at the time of that filing, federal law allows property believed to be connected to drug deals to be seized -- regardless of how fair or "fundamentally unfair" (as Tebeau's attorney put it) the process.
Now, as it turns out, Tebeau has finally been charged with a crime. But it's not for anything to do with drugs. Rather, it seems that authorities are mounting the old Al Capone strategy that says: "If you can't catch them in the act, drum up a tax complaint against them."
Last month the state's Department of Revenue charged Tebeau, 43, with six counts of felony tax evasion that, according to reports, accuses him of failing to file sales tax returns or pay sales tax owed to the state in July, September and October of this year.
On December 21, Tebeau pleaded not guilty to the charges. A hearing on the case is scheduled for February 1. Daily RFT has a call out with Tebeau's attorney on the matter, David Neal. More info when we hear back from him.
