Will Missouri Lose a Congressional Seat?

Hi, Daily RFT readers! Are you ready for a little region-specific political Jeopardy?

Q: This process starts with a "g" and ends with "errymandering"?

A: The process the state legislature may soon begin, if Missouri loses one of their delegation's congressional seats!

Results of the 2010 Census will be released Tuesday, and depending on its count, Missouri may go from nine to eight seats in the House, meaning the lines of the state's congressional districts would have to be redrawn.

The Post-Dispatch caught up with Sen. Claire McCaskill, and asked her what she knew.

She replied:

"I've heard we're going to lose a seat. I've heard we're not going to lose a seat. The people who say we're going to lose a seat are the people who are already busy trying to deny Missouri three Democratic members in Congress. The people who say we're going to hold on to a seat are the people who say we're still going to be able to hold on to three Democratic seats in Congress."
