It’s been over 50 years since humans left the Earth’s celestial backyard, and as of April 1st, we’ve stopped making excuses. The crew of Artemis II won’t be landing on the moon; what they’ll actually be doing is circumnavigating it. Think of it as a highly dramatic 10-day lap around the giant sky egg, and then they’ll be returning safely home to celebrate with their friends, family, and broader scientific community. The key test that they’ll be conducting is the Proximity Operations Demonstration, where the crew will be manually piloting Orion towards the rocket’s upper stage, getting within roughly 33 feet, and then practicing docking for future lunar landing missions. That drama lap is actually a dress rehearsal for humanity’s grand return to the lunar surface, because Artemis III is intended to attempt the actual landing.

This is the first crewed deep space mission since Apollo 17 in December of 1972, and the tests conducted on the Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (the most powerful rocket ever launched with humans on board, nbd) will directly inform future missions. Reminder: Artemis III is set to attempt the first crewed moon landing since 1972. Where is all of this leading? Well, scientists are treating the moon as a stepping stone to reaching Mars. Prior to launch, Pilot Victor Glover reflected that rather than just sending a text or making a phone call, he got to look his family directly in the eye and tell them that he loves them. If thinking about a devoted family man — who just happens to be the first Black man to enter lunar orbit — taking the love he has for his wife and daughters all the way out to the literal universe isn’t enough to make you feel a feeling, then I don’t know what will. Kim Novak — Vertigo star, Hitchcock muse, certified icon — has come out swinging against the casting of Sydney Sweeney in Scandalous, an upcoming biopic about Novak’s doomed 1957 romance with Sammy Davis Jr., and she is not being diplomatic about it. The project has reportedly stalled anyway, so the whole debate may be academic. But Novak has been dismissed by Hollywood once before, by men far more powerful and far more threatening than a stalled production. She’s not going quietly this time either. Chest comments and all.

For the approximately three people out there who don’t know what Euphoria is, it’s an HBO teen drama that has been wildly missed for the last four years. To get an understanding of the vibe, think: drugs, trauma, glitter, and bad decisions (with more glitter). The show follows a group of high school students in suburban America, featuring unflinching portrayals of addiction, and outfits that look like someone’s sleep paralysis demon had discovered fashion. The visuals are absolutely cinematic, and this is… not your average after-school special. The show has inspired everyone in some form or fashion, whether those someones are part of the newest generation of high-fashion designers, or OnlyFans Girls hustling for their subscribers online; the cultural reach is absolutely insane.

Critics loved Euphoria, viewers were obsessed, and pretty much everyone had an opinion, even if it took them a minute to fully form it. Rue is a teen in recovery from drug addiction, and Zendaya nails it. Those two Emmy awards she’s got? Zendaya didn’t just carry Euphoria, she is Euphoria.

There was one bittersweet moment in the Season 3 trailer that had me asking who was cutting onions in my one-person apartment. Eric Dane passed away in January of this year, and his portrayal of Cal Mead in the upcoming season was one of his final filmed performances. Dane was best known for his role of Dr. Mark Sloan (“McSteamy”) on Grey’s Anatomy, and his presence in Season 3 as the deeply complicated patriarch of the Mead family… well. It’s safe to say that it will carry more than a little weight for viewers.

So do you think Euphoria Season 3 is going to prove to be worth the wait? If fan response to the trailer is any indication, then absolutely. The new season premieres April 12th, on HBO/Max, at which point we can all openly wail at the production company about the emotional damage they’ll no doubt be wreaking upon us all. The fact that we’re watching voluntarily is beside the point. A few suggestions as you prepare, fans? Up next, we have The Young People, directed by Osgood Perkins, who directed Longlegs. In this movie, Tung will be starring alongside Nico Parker, Tatiana Maslany, and Hollywood legend, Nicole Kidman herself. According to Lola, the filming experience for The Young People was “crazy, weird, and awesome,” and she even said that she “got a little scared on set,” which tells me that I’m going to need to not have a full bladder at any point in the theater when I go to see this one.

Lola Tung is a proud Chinese-American actress, and a part of the legacy of Asian excellence we’ve seen on screen for the past few years. The representation was long needed, and watching Lola Tung enjoy her moment in the sun alongside several other phenomenal Asian actors has been a joy. Speaking of which, was anyone else as obsessed with Yerin Ha’s performance as Sophie Baek in Season 4 of Bridgerton as I was? The yearning. The joy. She brought goddess energy as a romantic lead in a mainstream prestige TV show, and Lola fits right into this wave. The roles we’re seeing are nuanced, central to the plot, and not relegated to the role of sidekick or best friend. Can we see more of this please?
