A former college student is headed to prison for enrolling under a fake name.
Malachi Duncan, 32, pleaded guilty in July to aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit student loan fraud.
Authorities say the former Hillsboro resident used the identity of Demarcus Brewster, listed as a co-conspirator in the case, to enroll at Jefferson College and obtain financial aid, student housing and an on-campus job.
He was eventually arrested in Memphis, Tennessee, where he had also used an alias to enroll at the University of Memphis. Along with his 45-month prison sentence, Duncan was ordered to pay $57,139 in restitution.
Brewster was sentenced in September 2016 to seven months in prison and three years supervised release. He was ordered to pay restitution of $14,159.
