Anberlin

Saturday, October 15; the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard)

The true test of any band's lasting power is its sophomore album, which represents the group's ability to follow up a successful debut and predicts its potential. Orlando's Anberlin released their second album, Never Take Friendship Personal, on Tooth & Nail in February -- and while driving guitar lines and addictive hooks remain from their 2003 debut, Blueprints for the Black Market, an infusion of highly personal lyrics display the band's progression. As always, the quartet sounds like what would happen if MxPx and the Starting Line had a baby, with a bit of pop that's heavy on rock & roll harmony. But Anberlin promises to stay the course with its high-energy melodic performances: You'll probably end up singing along halfway through each song, or at least screaming along when the boys call for crowd response.

Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18; call 314-726-6161 for more information.
