Bark it Out

Many humans think that all dogs do is nap, dream about chasing squirrels and, ahem, get intimately acquanited with other canines. In reality, they get almost as stressed as we do, they just don't complain. They agonize over how they rank in the dog community; they worry about why humans are gone so long during the day, and they fret over the economy and the price of dog food -- all of that worry builds up. Just as we blow off steam with cocktails after a long day at the office, pups also need to find a way to relax. Luckily, the Boathouse in Forest Park (6101 Government Drive; 314-367-2224 or www.boathouseforestpark.com) speaks everyone's language. With Yappy Hour, held from 5 to 7 p.m., dogs and humans can commiserate with like species over drink specials and appetizers (for the humans) and water and sniffing (for the dogs). The $5 admission price (for people -- pets get in free) benefits Forest Park Forever, a cause that both canine and human communities ought to support.
