A Greasy Good Time

While we’re normally loathe to give props to that eternally fake-tanned, frosted-tip-sporting TV personality Guy Fieri, his love of diners is something any red-blooded American can get behind. And for twenty years now, South Grand institution City Diner has been a pillar of an eternally colorful neighborhood and a purveyor of hearty (and, yes, wonderfully greasy) food. (Grand Center denizens can enjoy the same fare at its North Grand outpost as well.) To celebrate twenty years of fried eggs, juicy burgers and bad-ass milkshakes, the eatery is throwing itself a party with the City Diner 20th Anniversary Retro Carnival. The festivities include family-friendly games, local vendors, a retro photo booth and a biscuits-and-gravy eating contest. In the evening, KDHX 88.1 FM DJ Al Swacker of the Greaser’s Lunchbox will pump out the jams for a neighborhood dance party. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and you can thank founder and owner Peter Spoto in person for making South Grand a tastier place.
