Postwar German Art in the Collection

The inaugural exhibition in the new East Building of the Saint Louis Art Museum, Postwar German Art in the Collection, features many of the museum's most stunning and moving pieces. Betty, Gerhard Richter's soft-focus painting of a backward-looking girl wearing an exquisitely beautiful jacket, is a crowd favorite and is now proudly on display in full view rather than tucked in a corner. Anselm Kiefer's visceral large-scale sculptural painting, Burning Rods, and the mirthful but melancholy Why Can't I Stop Smoking? by Sigmar Polke also now have spaces that suits their presence. Postwar German Art remains on display Tuesday through Sunday through Sunday, January 26, 2014. Call 314-721-0072 or visit www.slam.org for more information.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 29. Continues through Jan. 26, 2013
