St. Louis Misses Out on Food & Wine Magazine's "People's Best New Pastry Chef"

All right, Food & Wine, you've played with our emotions for the last time.

Or at least we go through this whole cycle again next spring.

Last week, the magazine announced its first and presumably annual "People's Best New Pastry Chef" competition. As with its "People's Best New Chef" competition, anyone could vote online for one of the nominated pastry chefs in each of three regions. The pastry chef who received the most votes overall would be named "People's Best New Pastry Chef."

St. Louis scored one of the 50 finalists for the honor in Robert Zugmaier of Sidney Street Café (2000 Sidney Street; 314-771-5777). Would he fare better than St. Louis' two finalists in this year's "People's Best New Chef" competition?

Alas, no.

Jodi Elliott of the Austin, Texas, restaurant Foreign & Domestic won the most votes in the central region, in which Zugmaier was included, and the most votes overall to claim the title.
