The Wedge Opens Friday, October 17, With Gold Tooth, DJ Elemental Child

The Wedge just emailed to say it's having its grand opening on Friday, October 17. (For more information the venue, check out our blogpost.) Says the missive: "The restaurant will open for lunch at 11 a.m., and continue serving food on through 11 p.m. in the evening, with a limited late-nite menu through close at 1:30 a.m."

"To help celebrate the opening, local hard rock favorites Gold Tooth will be taking the stage at 10 p.m. for a thrashing throw down. Prior to Gold Tooth performing, DJ Elemental Child will be spinning his massive collection of music in the ground floor bar, starting at 8 p.m. And who know? There might just be a few more surprises lined up."

The bar downstairs is free that night to come check out. However, the price for the show? Eight bucks, with a two dollar minor surcharge, because the show is 18-plus. I'm glad there's a new venue booking shows, but charging that much money for what appears to be one band -- a local band, even, and that's not a dig on Gold Tooth or local bands; that ticket price isn't unheard of for national acts with guarantees -- on the first night it's open, especially in this economy, is somewhat outrageous.

If the Wedge wants people to come check out its space and make it a viable destination for concertgoers -- and with its location, it is a destination venue, not one you drop by on the way to go somewhere else -- it might want to make admission cheaper, or at least reduce the price for the opening weekend so people aren't disinclined to attend.
