St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones hosted a ceremony honoring fashion icon Karlie Kloss this morning, dedicating a portion of Washington Avenue to her legacy.
The quiet ceremony for Karlie Kloss Way kicked off with a speech for Mayor Jones about Kloss’ undeniable influence in the fashion industry and tech world. “Karlie is super everything,” Jones said. “She’s supermodel, super coder, super entrepreneur and most of all, super mom.”
After a brief speech, Kloss took the stage to a round of applause, expressing with teary eyes gratitude towards St. Louis and the importance of fashion to the city. The Webster Groves High School graduate touched on her time in school and her passion for arts — and shouted out our fashionable mayor.
“And to the very stylish Mayor Jones, thank you for your leadership and your unwavering support of St. Louis’ vibrant cultural life,” Kloss said.
The ceremony concluded with Ted Drewes announcing a new frozen treat named after Kloss: the Karlie Concrete. And if that's not a sign a St. Louisan has truly made it, we don't know what is.
“This city has showed me that a girl from St. Louis can dream, achieve, and work to make a difference in the world,” Kloss says.
Good citizen that she is, Kloss then
headed over to assist Missourians for Constitutional Freedom in their work gathering signatures for an initiative allowing voters to overturn the state's abortion ban.
