St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones' Snarkiest Texts That She Doesn't Want You to Read

Mayor Tishaura Jones administration had to release a cache of texts to the media.
In today's edition of "Politicians ... they're just like us!" We found out that Mayor Tishaura Jones is in a lot of catty group texts. The only issue? News organizations can request to read her texts.

That's exactly what happened when the St. Louis Business Journal and KSDK submitted a Sunshine Law request for Mayor Jones' texts surrounding the appointment of a new St. Louis Circuit Attorney after former Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner's resignation.

For KSDK, the big story was that Jones was not interested in having Missouri Senator Steve Roberts take the CAO job. In one group text, between Mayor Jones, her dad Virvus Jones and political advisor Richard Callow, they discussed the possibility because a poll seemed to indicate voters favored Roberts for the job.

"The Gov ain't picking him," the mayor responded. "And we mobilize to make sure his ass gets dragged."

According to KSDK, Virvus Jones was in agreement. But the RFT's response to this was not shock and dismay. Spokesman Nick Desideri's comments to KSDK basically sum it up, "This shouldn't be news or a surprise to anyone. Mayor Jones has been open and honest about her thoughts regarding him for years."

The late Cora Faith Walker, Jones' close friend, accused Roberts of rape in 2016. Roberts denied any wrongdoing and said their encounter was consensual. He then sued Walker for defamation, and she countersued. The two settled in 2019.

We agree having a vendetta is not the look, but can you fault someone for trying to find a suitably qualified candidate for the role of CAO who hasn't been accused of rape and (in another instance) sexual assault?

What we did find interesting were the REST of the text messages that Mayor Jones sent to her dad, Callow and other confidants. From suggesting that she punch Eric Schmitt in the neck to hoping that Sharon (we assume Tyus) blows a gasket, these texts had us rolling on the floor.

Can we get invited to the group chat, Mayor Jones?

(The texts on the right are from Tishaura Jones and Richard Callow has a blue face as his icon, while Virvus Jones is represented as a gray VJ.)
