Till Death...

Maplewood is a neat place. It's full of beautiful vintage frame houses and it supports an intriguing and broad variety of small businesses, live music venues, and some very good restaurants. It's also home to Josie Marcus, but you'll never bump into her at the corner of Manchester and Sutton -- or anywhere else in this solid old St. Louis suburb. You can only meet Josie by reading one of native St. Louisan Elaine Viets' novels featuring the mystery shopper/amateur sleuth, or you can show up tonight at St. Louis County Library headquarters (1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard, Frontenac; 314-994-3300 or www.slcl.org) and meet this fictional character’s real-life creator. Viets will be discussing and signing copies of her new novel from the Josie Marcus Mystery Shopper series, Murder Is a Piece of Cake, as the guest of Pudd'nHead Books and the St. Louis County Library Foundation. In keeping with the book's bridal theme, Viets will also judge both a prettiest and an ugliest bridesmaid dress during the event -- would you care to guess which category will have more entrants? The event is free and open to the public and begins at 7 p.m.
