In any case, Chick-fil-A plans to exploit its customers' fondness for both cows and chicken sandwiches tomorrow, July 10, henceforth known as Cow Appreciation Day.
Anyone who shows up at a Chick-fil-A tomorrow dressed as a cow will receive a free combo meal.
And what does "dressed as a cow" entail, you may ask.
The Cow Appreciation Day website offers a list of helpful hints for cow costuming. Fortunately, it appears that udders are not required:
Chick-fil-A is a Christian organization and therefore practices compassion. This means that if you don't feel you can go out in public in full cow regelia, you can show up in "partial cow attire" (that is, in one cow-like accessory) and receive a free entree.
- Start with items that you already have at home -- cow-printed accessories stashed in your closet will work perfectly. Hats, vests, scarves, neckties, pants, shoes, pajamas -- just about any cow-spotted item will work. Just make sure you're covered head to toe.
- Wear white and then just add cow spots. Throw on a white T-shirt with white pants (even sweatpants) and stick on your cow spots using black contact paper. Cut spots out of construction paper and tape them to your shirt and pants. If nothing else, you can grab an old white T-shirt and color black cow spots all over it with a magic marker, and you'll still get a free entrée.
- Go to your local paint or hardware store and get a white painter's hat and overalls. Then decorate yourself with cow spots made out of contact or construction paper.
- If you're not feeling too creative and want an easy costume, search the Internet for "cow costumes," and you will be flooded with full-body costumes available for purchase.(And hey, you'll be set for Halloween, too).
The website also provides a cow costume kit, suitable for printout.
If you show up between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., you can get your picture taken with the "Eat Mor Chikin" cow. How can anyone possibly bear the excitement?
The nearest Chick-fil-A to St. Louis is in the food court of West County Center, though there are also locations in St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights and on Chesterfield Airport Road in Chesterfield.
Says Mark Simmonds, the West County franchise operator, "Cow Appreciation Day gives us a chance to interact first-hand with our most loyal and creative customers. If you're willing to dress up like a cow for a free meal, it says a lot about how much you love Chick-fil-A!"
