Bar Louie's (14 Maryland Plaza; 314-678-3385) annual Rock the Tot tater tot-eating competition is about to get serious. Tonight, September 19, the chain is attempting to set the world record for most tater tots eaten simultaneously, utilizing patrons at all of its locations. We couldn't find what the standing record is (hmm) but either way, that's a lot of tots.

The actual eating competition is split into two parts. The first is a four person relay race; each member of the team has to eat ONE POUND of tots as fast as they can, then the next person starts, etc. The team to finish first wins Rock the Tot champion t-shirts and free tots at Bar Louie for a year (okay, worth it). Next, solo contentents will eat as many tater tots as possible in three minutes, with the drink of their choice. Each local winner will win a $250 Bar Louie gift card, t-shirt, trophy, and free tots for a year.

The five local winners who eat the most across the country win a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland for the national championship on October 5. That crazy bastard will win a $500 cash prize, tater tots for life and of course, the world record. Last year's national winner ate five pounds and four ounces of tots in six minutes. Register online here, and be at Bar Louie in the Central West End at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
