California may be hundreds of miles away, but St. Louis is getting a little taste of Venice Beach this weekend, thanks to Beach Cruiser food truck. The three friends behind the wheel are driving cross-country as part of the Food Network's Great Food Truck Race.

"I'm a professional kite surfer, and really there's not a lot of food available early in the morning when surfers are at the beach," co-owner Gretta Kruesi tells us. "I really liked what the food truck industry was doing and really wanted to take flavors and foods that are really tasty and filling, but are not going to make you want to take a nap after."

Kruesi travels around the world for her sport, but she put all that on hold for the food-truck competition, as did her partners. The menu is fresh and healthy California-inspired cuisine, like fish tacos and lettuce wraps. Kruesi says Beach Cruiser's signature item is probably the fried avocado -- we're not sure what that is, but it sounds amazing.

"We're actually adding onto our menu specifically for St. Louis -- we always try to incorporate local flavors," Kruesi says. "Wer'e going to do a pulled-pork taco."

The food trucks only find out where they're going next the week of, and when we spoke to Kruesi they were en route from Oklahoma City, its previous stop. She's not sure where they will be posted up this weekend, but the food truck will be selling from around noon to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
