FoodWire: Some Love for Schlafly

Jun 2, 2009 at 2:09 pm
As Gut Check has noted several times, this is the first annual St. Louis Craft Beer Week. So it's nice to see St. Louis craft breweries getting attention outside the area.

First up, we have a poll for "Best Midwest Craft Brewery" on the Web site the Full Pint. Schlafly won with 25% of the vote, edging Great Lakes Brewery by 160 votes.

Schlafly also garnered attention from Baltimore Sun beer blogger Rob Kasper. Kasper attended Savor, a craft-beer celebration in Washington, D.C., this past weekend. Dan Kopman was there, touting some of Schlafly's brews. Kasper was a fan:

The one beer I went back to get again was the Schlafly Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Wow!

(This might not have been the first time Kasper had heard of Schlafly: His son, Matt, was the editorial fellow at the RFT for six months last year and early this year.)

Speaking of beer! My feature article on St. Louis' craft-beer scene will be published tomorrow and should be available online later today. Stay tuned. I had a lot of fun working on it and think you'll enjoy reading it.
