Tex-Mex mainstay Hacienda (9748 Manchester Road; 314-962-7100) is expanding its tequila menu and renovating the indoor bar in the next month. The restaurant has been in its historic Rock Hill building since 1977.

Jermain Todd of Mwanzi Co. is covering the walls with rustic, reclaimed wood from a 100-year-old barn in Gerald; the refurbished bar, from Spiegelglass Construction Co., will showcase a curated selection of blancos, reposados and anejos tequilas. Hacienda is also adding mezcals to the menu.

The Rodriguez family, which still owns the restaurant Mexican immigrant Norberto Rodriguez founded in 1968, actually owns its own line of mezcal called Legendario Domingo, which is used in its "Mezcal Mule." A seasonal drink menu will also debut in September.

"We really want our customers to get the whole experience of being in a margarita and tequila bar, as though they were in a real hacienda in Mexico," general manager Andrew Iqbal said in statement. "Although the bar's structure, lighting, sound and setup is different. You're still going to be greeted with a smile and served the same great margarita and fresh, authentic Mexican food you love."

You'll also be able to sample tequilas in Hacienda's new tequila flight. Tequilas and mezcals are supposed to be the next big thing -- think the whiskey surge of the last few years -- so be sure to check out the new and improved Hacienda at its official unveiling on September 26.
