As we first reported on Friday, neighborhood institution Majestic (4900 Laclede Avenue; 314-361-2011) is for sale. While an employee at the restaurant confirmed that the restaurant is closing after this weekend, owner Pete Politis later e-mailed Gut Check to say that nothing is final. Now, it appears that the rumor is true, and Majestic will serves its final meals on Sunday, April 6.
The Majestic began in 1961 as a diner and endured through the Central West End's trendy transformation. You guys had a lot to say, so we rounded up some of your favorite memories. Feel free to send us more, too. The Majestic deserves a royal sendoff.

Sauce magazine confirmed the closing with Politis:
Co-owner Pete Politis, who is also a partner in the family restaurant with his cousin, Alex Politis, said the restaurant will serve its last meal this weekend, April 5 and 6. Politis said the Central West End establishment restaurant will serve customers Saturday until 5 p.m., and on Sunday if there is still food. The restaurant will shorten its regular hours Tuesday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

yesca23: That sucks because I still patron that place. The bar will be missed. Georgia always made the drinks friendly and would make you a bagel if you needed to sober up. I wish the best of the family.. pretty sure they made out just fine for that spot; hope they open up elsewhere:-}
Marti Rowland Gurley: The Majestic is absolutely an institution! It's always packed and I hate to see it go. It's our favorite breakfast place!

ParallelParker: Yikes! So in the mid--1970s my wife Corinne and I often ate there. We lived two blocks up the street. Two dinners with a soft drink was a total of $5.00. (As young people, we were not yet smart enough to always drink alcohol with dinner. Now we know better.) Most startlingly, Meryl Streep was, with some regularity, in the Majestic eating alone. For a Starbuck's gift card or a modest contribution to my PayPal account, I will tell you why and how that occurred.
tom058: I am bummed. I am a breakfast regular and frequently had Bill's Special Gyro Omlette.. Thank you for all your years of service. Been going there since I moved to St. Louis in 1980, i.e, 34 years ago.. South Euclid will never be the same.
Pete Baum: Back in the late 90s I worked at KPLR and after Friday night's newscast we'd all head over to the Maj for drinks. I still go there a couple times a year and after all those years Lou still remembers us and is still like an old friend. Where else can you find hospitality like that anymore?? And the food, don't get me started! I will miss this place terribly!
