Have the big food blogs officially run out of topics, or are they succumbing because of foodie backlash?

Forbes reported yesterday that AOL's axing 30 of their brands, including six-year-old food website Slashfood. The website will be absorbed by the still-new food section at the Huffington Post.

AOL purchased Huffington Post in early February.

This comes on the heels of another major food blog, The Atlantic Food, consolidating into The Atlantic Life. The two-year-old blog, or "channel", as The Atlantic prefers, was home to posts from experts like nutritionist Marion Nestle and food writer Barry Estabrook. As of March 8 they're sharing space with the publication's Health, Travel, Design and Green channels.

The Atlantic Food was nominated for a National Magazine Award.
