The sandwich board labeled "Now Open" at Spring Center Gourmet (1862 South Tenth Street; 314-899-9707) says it all: "Don't feel like making dinner? No problem! Come in and pick up one of our prepared gourmet entrees or in-house smoked meats!"
Co-owners and chefs Patrick McGinnis and Jeff Dexheimer hope to provide reasonably priced, ready-to-go meals at their new concept, which they describe as a cross between Annie Gunn's Smokehouse and Gourmet to Go. The Soulard storefront, which formerly housed Ferraro's Pizza, opened quietly in early January and prepares nearly all of its items on site utilizing from-scratch glazes, brines, stocks and more.
"We like to call it fine foods," says Dexheimer, who boasts 25 years of hospitality experience. "We have everything from hot or frozen soups to casseroles, salads, entrees, charcuterie boards and whole roasted chickens."
Spring Center Gourmet, named after a former general store on McGinnis' family farm, provides many options for home-cooking enthusiasts looking to catch a break. Choose from marinated cuts of beef for the grill, fully cooked meats and seafood, prepared sandwich or salad trays, entrees and pastas, sides, ready-to-eat hot soups and more.
On Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., get some hot house-smoked chicken, or opt for ready-to-eat pork chops on Thursdays and Saturdays during the same time frame.
Spring Center Gourmet's current hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A liquor license is pending, and a patio is set to open this spring.
