The newest franchise to hit St. Louis metro area, the Dapper Doughnut (11600 Olive Boulevard, Creve Coeur; 314-227-5544), offers something the city already has lots of — donuts.

But even if you think we're hit saturation point, you may still want to find room in your heart (and stomach) for these stunning little treats. With flavors like S’mores, lemon meringue-blueberry, chocolate-covered strawberry and pumpkin pie spice (the list goes on — and on) these tiny hand-crafted donuts are cake-style with a soft warm inside and a crispy outside. They're delicious.

Greg Markovitz, who is native to St. Louis, born and bred, wanted to do something fun that represented community and brought people together. What better way, he thought, than donuts? He started working on getting a franchise last January and finally had his soft opening two weeks ago.

The response from the area was overwhelming; people have been flooding in to eat these miniature pastries all hours of the day, he says.

While the Dapper Donut franchise was established in early 2015, this is St. Louis' first outlet. Not to say it will be the last, if Markovitz has his way. “My personal dream for the future is to expand greatly and open several locations all over the St. Louis area,” he says.

Though the bakery seems like your average sweet shop, Markovitz's family and staff is working hard always to freshly craft each order as it is made; the dough is even fried fresh with each order. And unlike most bakeries that do catering, the Dapper Donut actually brings its donut machines to your event to make donuts on the spot. “I would like each person that visits The Dapper Donut to leave feeling they have had a unique experience," Markovitz says. "I am even willing to go outside the box and say if it can be found, I am willing to top a donut with it.”

A variety of unusual roasted and brewed coffee are also specially made on-site. Dapper’s current blends include a medium bodied floral, nut and fruit blend called Sahara and their traditional house blend Red Rock that is a medium bodied smooth full flavored bean. If coffee is not your thing, maybe you would like to sip on a handmade donut milk shake; they're available in any flavor: vanilla ice cream is blended with your choice of donut flavor and topping and garnished with both whipped cream and, yes, a donut, served up on the straw.

The Dapper Donut is currently offering its seasonal pumpkin pie spice donut until January; then it will be replaced by the "Cinn City," a vanilla and cinnamon mix that tastes like a fresh baked cinnamon roll.

For a free taste of what the place is up to in the meantime, you might want to think about stopping by on Black Friday, November 24. The shop is offering six free donuts to anyone who joins them between 1 and 4 p.m.

If you can’t make it out that day, regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
