La Patisserie Chouquette (1626 Tower Grove Avenue; 314-932-7935) releases its latest creation today: the Darkness. It's a flaky chocolate croissant made with dark chocolate dough, 72 percent chocolate butter and pink Himalayan sea salt. It was originally set to debut on Saturday, July 19, but owner and pastry chef jokes that she had to move it up a day due to death threats.

Unlike some of Faure's limited-edition treats (we're still dreaming of the turducken croissant), the Darkness will be available every day, though baked in limited quantities daily.

"I never could figure out why no one makes a truly chocolate croissant until I made these. They are such a pain in the ass," Faure tells us. "I really had to ask myself out loud one Sunday when I was here prepping the hoards of dough that we bulked up on in anticipation of the debut, 'Why the fuck am I doing this?' Then I realized, I'm doing it because no one else is, and they're delicious."
