In March restaurateur Michael del Pietro of Tavolo V, Sugo's Spaghetteria, Via Vino and more opened his latest venture, the Salted Pig (731 South Lindbergh Boulevard; 314-738-9373) in Frontenac. Unlike his other concepts, the Salted Pig eschews an Italian focus, instead featuring farm-to-table Southern comfort food including sandwiches and barbecue.

The large dining room features rustic, reclaimed wood and a full bar, complete with local beer, bourbon and a selection of domestic wine. The casual atmosphere comes established from the get-go, with menus presented on boards fastened by rubber bands.

For starters, select from "Small Bites" including wings, mussels and roasted shaved Brussels sprouts loaded up with house-cured bacon and caramelized onions. The menu continues with a beef-brisket chili and soup of the day followed by a selection of cold and roasted salads. The real meat of the menu, however, awaits in the "Sammies" and "Plates" selections.
