For better or worse, Florence + the Machine's single "Dog Days Are Over" trilled into a broader public consciousness when it was used in the trailer for Eat Pray Love, where it surged over images of a self-satisfied Julia Roberts pedaling through twilit rice paddies. But there's more to fire-maned Florence Welch than a soaring soundtrack for chick-lit narcissism. In 2009, the British belter with the bottomless voice put out Lungs, a collection of bombastic piano pop overflowing with gothic imagery, rocketing choruses and shimmering harps. Welch has been racking up awards ever since. Her free-spirited performances have helped bolster her celebrity, which may be why tickets for this first St. Louis appearance vanished so quickly.
