The LouFest 2012 Lineup is here: the Flaming Lips and Girl Talk get top billing and there's plenty of depth. Dinosaur Jr. and Cotton Mather for you reunion fans. King Tuff, Little Barrie and THEESatisfaction for those looking for new sounds. Cults and Hacienda will act as a musical speedramp to get you headed into the late sets with some energy.

You can buy two-day early bird passes now for $60. LouFest will be held this year on August 25 and 26 in Forest Park -- the entire lineup is below. What do you think? Overall we're excited.

Initial Reactions

-This is a more uptempo lineup than in years past. Perhaps the success of the !!! set is partially to thank?

-COTTON MATHER IS BACK AND COMING TO ST. LOUIS

-Would have loved to see some more hip-hop here (a local, perhaps?), but THEESatisfaction will be great.

-Sometimes we think the Flaming Lips live show (especially at festivals) is a little taken for granted. We've even gone in feeling ho-hum once or twice. But make no mistake: This is the kind of band that causes people to hold music as a religion, particularly if you haven't seen it in a while.

-There's not as much love for up-and-coming St. Louis bands (Sleepy Kitty and the Pernikoff Brothers made the cut) as in years past, but we do get sets from Son Volt (featuring local god Jay Farrar) and honorary hometown boys Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

-That new Dr. Dog record is awesome and it will sound even better out on the lawn in the heat of summer.

A Brief Introduction:

Flaming Lips Newest Release: "Now I Understand." It's a song with lyrics generated by Siri, and that is roughly the 100th strangest thing this band has done in the last year. There's a collaboration album coming on Record Store Day called The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends, which includes joint efforts with Ke$ha, Jim James, Lightning Bolt, Erykah Badu and plenty others. That's maybe 86. Hometown: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Last Time in St. Louis: September 17, 2010 at the Pageant. Review, photos and setlist are here.

Girl Talk Newest Release: Sort of irrelevant, really -- the latest hit's chorus with, I don't know, the drum sample from "Paid in Full" underneath. Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Last Time in St. Louis: January 18, 2011 at the Pageant. Review, photos and setlist are here.
