The comparatively unknown mewithoutYou walked away with mtvU's 2005 Left Field Woodie Award, which is given to the year's most original artist — and in the process beat out critical dahlings Saul Williams, Matisyahu, M.I.A. and Arcade Fire. Was it the Philadelphia quintet's crushing post-hardcore guitar riffage that sealed the deal? The fuzzed-out, spoken-word verses that erupt into anguished, shrieking choruses? Or such ambi-God-uous lyrics as "I was dead, then alive/She was like wine turned to water and turned back to wine?" Either way, expect this show to feature a sneak preview of selections from the band's as-yet-untitled third album, due in September from Tooth & Nail Records.
