Bounding across stages with the exuberance and costuming of a crew of sugar-high trick-or-treaters, Yeah Yeah Yeahs vocalist Karen O commands nothing less than 100 percent of her audience's attention. Her innocent playfulness and array of yips, howls and shrieks (coupled with the garage-rock-meets-art-school-dance-party beats of guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase) earned the band critical acclaim after the 2003 release of its first full-length, Fever to Tell. But the new album, Show Your Bones, is remarkably calmer than previous works — in tune with Karen's comments that her performances are somewhat more restrained as well. Not that a YYY show could ever be anything less than an aerobic frenzy of excitement, but Karen just isn't looking to get any more concussions.
