Bounding across stages with the exuberance and costuming of a crew of sugar-high trick-or-treaters, Yeah Yeah Yeahs vocalist Karen O commands nothing less than 100 percent of her audience's attention. Her innocent playfulness and array of yips, howls and shrieks (coupled with the garage-rock-meets-art-school-dance-party beats of guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase) earned the band critical acclaim after the 2003 release of its first full-length, Fever to Tell. But the new album, Show Your Bones, is remarkably calmer than previous works in tune with Karen's comments that her performances are somewhat more restrained as well. Not that a YYY show could ever be anything less than an aerobic frenzy of excitement, but Karen just isn't looking to get any more concussions.
