One of three suspects in a deadly burglary from October has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Lopez Watson-Simms, 19, and his two accomplices shot and killed 37-year-old Carlos Morris and wounded his fourteen-year-old relative during the break-in, police say.
The masked intruders were recorded on surveillance video entering and then fleeing Morris' home at about 1:45 a.m. on October 4 in Spanish Lake. Multiple shots were fired during the fatal confrontation, authorities say.
Police haven't said what led them to Watson-Simms, other than that the Visitation Park neighborhood resident was identified by "evidence left at the scene." One of the suspects was shown in the video touching a glass storm door as he left, authorities say.
Along with murder, Watson-Simms was charged with first-degree assault, burglary and three counts of armed criminal action. He was held without bond. Police are still searching for the other two suspects.
Morris' fourteen-year-old relative was shot several times and badly wounded during the attack, but he survived, authorities say.
